I believe that a web forum is the hardest to build since other than the concept alone its actually a "community" that you are building..

ChiQ Montes's last blog post..Rebel Magazine Theme

A lot of good key points new forum owners should keep in mind. Nicely said. :)

Looking forward to part 3.

This is very true - lots of forums don't build a great identity.

When people ask you: "What is your forum about?", you shouldn't say: "lots of things"...you should be able to specifically state a "motto" or a theme towards your site.

For example, I used to run Krazy Letter - the name didn't fit what it was about, and I didn't know whether or not to focus it on teen chat, general chat with everyone, gaming chat, etc.

That's why I've started my new generation of forums - Teen Business Forum is specifically about "teen business". Without much SEO, I've already ranked in "Teen Forum" and "Teen Business".

Sentient Youth will be a teen forum, yes, but it'll be for *educated* and intelligent discussions between teens. This means, philosophy, modern issues, politics, etc, instead of the "general teen chat". I believe that Sentient Youth will do much better at word of mouth marketing.

Nice guide so far. I think I need to cut my forum down a bit and make it more specialised.
